Welcome!
Troop 83 serves the Plainfield, Illinois and surrounding area. We are a relatively new troop being chartered on 5/13/2003.  We are sponsored by St. John Lutheran Church of Joliet.  We meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm.
KANKAKEE STATE PARK - APRIL 27-29

Pack your gear and especially your hiking boots!  We will once again camp at Davis Creek in the Kankakee State Park.Several prehistoric sites are documented within Kankakee River State Park. The park is within a region used by Illini and Miami Indians at the time of the first European contact in the 1670s and 1680s. Potawatomi Indians hunted along the Kankakee River in the 1760s. Fees ($20) are due on Tuesday, April 17th.

PLAINFIELD INTER-TROOP COMPETITION CAMP-OUT - MAY 4-6
Start reviewing your "Scout Skills" now!  The annual skill competition is ON!!  We will compete against five other local troops in the areas of first aid, fire building, knot tying, balloon launch, tamahawk throw and many other fun challenges!  EVERYONE should participate in this outing.  Heck, it's practically in our own backyards!  The fee is $15 and will be due on April 24th.  Be there or be square...KNOT!!!
Baraboo Circus Camporee - May 18-20

Stomp into Baraboo, Wisconsin on the weekend of May 18, 19 & 20, 2012, for the 26th Baraboo Circus Heritage at theSauk County Fairgrounds. There’s so much happening at BCH. Make new friends playing the Circus Spirit Game. Show off your fine craftsmanship by entering the Pinewood Derby or Miniature Circus Wagon Competition. Show our troop's teamwork at the Roustabout Roundup Skills Competition. Make a taste sensation at the Dutch Oven Dessert Bake Off.  Discover everything at the Sideshow and Scouting Museum. Find out about historic Baraboo on the Circus Heritage Trail. Be entertained at the Circus Spirit Night and the Center Ring Stage Show.

Attention Troop Leaders- Wood Badge Training is Coming!!!
Wood Badge is designed to be an advanced leadership training experience for Scout Leaders.  With this training you will learn how to be an effective communicator, discover new ways to present your ideas to your unit, home, community or workplace, expand and update your leadership skills and demonstrate to the youth in our unit your commitment to the Scouting mission.  The next Wood Badge course C7-702-12 begins this August.  Ask a Wood Badger in our Troop for details!

ONGOING TROOP RECYCLING

Troop 83 has an ongoing recycling program.  There is no selling involved and its a great way to raise money for troop equipment.  We would like all our Scouts and parents to save aluminum cans.  Crush them (rinse first if you can), put them in a bag and bring them with you to the next troop meeting.  One of the leaders will collect them and "turn them into money".
