Rainbow Council Scouting University Photo Contest
What inage do you think best reflects the essence of scouting? Capture it with your camera and then enter your favorite photograph in the "What Scouting is About- Scouts in action doing what Scouts do best" photo contest. The image should not just create a visual reaction, but must evoke a feeling about scouting-- photographs that create an emotional response.
Categories: Youth in Cub Scouts, Youth in Boy Scouts, Adults and youth in Venturing.
Theme: What is Scouting about.
Entries: One per registered scout or leader. Entry must include 1) Title of picture 2) Location and date of photo and brief description of the activity 3) Equipment used to take the photo (brand and modle of camera) and 4) Photographer's name, phone number, e-mail address and unit number.
Format: Digital Photos only in the best resolution possible.
Deadline: All photos must be e-mailed to scoutinguphoto@comcast.net no later than Tuesday, October 12, 2010 by 11:59pm.
Winners: Winners will be announced at Scouting University. one winner in each category.

AURORA SPORTSMEN’S CLUB PROUDLY PRESENTS
Juniors Shooting Day
8:30am – 5:00pm The Aurora Sportsmens Club, located in Waterman, Illinois is pleased to be able to offer Junior
shooters (ages 10-17) the opportunity to develop their shooting skills and start or make progress
on Winchester/NRA Marksmanship qualification programs in Rifle or Shotgun disciplines. (Visit
http://www.nrahq.org/education/training/marksmanship/ for more information) This opportunity can also be used by area Boy Scouts to complete the shooting requirements for
Archery, Rifle Shooting, and Shotgun Shooting merit badges (bring blue cards, please.)
Archery – open range time from 10am to Noon. Check in at the archery range which is co-located with the shotgun range on Rueff Road. There is no cost for this program.
Rifle - $10 fee to cover the cost of ammunition and supplies for 1½ hours of shooting. Two relays, 16 available positions per relay.
- Relay 1 - 9am to 10:15 classroom, 10:30 to Noon, range on Rueff Road
- Relay 2 - 1:15 to 2:30 classroom, 2:45 to 4:15, range on Rueff Road
Check in at the classroom on Preserve Road 15 minutes before class time.
Juniors need to provide own transportation to the range session (not walkable.)
Shotgun - $40 fee to cover the cost of ammunition and supplies for three rounds of trap in three hours. Two squads, 5 available positions per squad.
- Squad 1 - 9am to Noon, trap field on Rueff Road
- Squad 2 - 1:15pm to 4:15pm, trap field on Rueff Road
Check in at the classroom on Preserve Road 30 minutes before class time.
Juniors need to provide own transportation to the range session (not walkable.)
First-come, first-served registration by sending email with the Junior
shooter’s name, Parent’s name and phone number; along with first/second
choices of relays and squads to BobMcLear@aol.com. All registration requests will be acknowledged. Fees to be paid at check in.
All classroom and firearms shooting will be completed under the watchful
eye of NRA Certified Instructors and NRA Certified Range Safety Officers.
Ear and eye protection for firearms ranges and arm bands for Archery are
provided by the club, but feel free to bring your own.

This program will be repeated on Saturday August 28, 2010 and Saturday
October 2, 2010. Registration for each of those events will be available 2
to 3 weeks in advance of the date.

Overall, Camp Frontier created memories for us, that will last a lifetime. We may even remember the worst part of camp...THE HORSE FLIES!!!
The Trout Unlimited Sport Fishing Organization is offering an all day program meeting the requirements of the Boy Scout Merit Badge for Fly Fishing. The course, which meets one Saturday each month, is free of charge but has limited space available. Scouting University will be held for ALL ADULT LEADERS on November 13th at a yet to be determined location. Items to look forward to:
- Photography Contest- categories for Cub Scout, Boy Scouts and Venturers as well as Adult Registered Leaders. (The deadline for submission is the October Roundtable meeting)
- Dutch Oven Cooking is back again!! Be sure to register early if you want to get in on this three hour class!
- Woodworking opportunities- Try your hand at a project, see sample ideas, or talk to and experienced woodworker.
- Visit the huge craft idea area with the Queen of Crafts for Rainbow Council. Walk away with some new ideas for your Scouts!
- Beef up your knowledge of Scouting by attending one of the many workshops.
- Visit the display area to get ideas for trips, campouts and other fun places to visit.
